Matěj Pokorný is an artist working across painting, object creation, sculpture, and video production, with a particular affinity for cinematic forms. This year, he is undertaking a residency at the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in the Center for Audiovisual Studies. His painting focuses on the immediate expression of emotions through intense and expressive techniques.

Currently, Pokorný is studying the Czech underground theater and film scene, which informs his latest works. His newest paintings navigate the boundary between abstract and figurative expression, capturing his current emotional state in each piece. He perceives his paintings not as isolated works but as part of a continuous flow, forming a broader whole. For Pokorný, the act of painting is the most significant aspect—each painting serves as evidence of the interaction between the artist and the canvas.
