Hell is Other People takes its title from Sartre: another person’s gaze objectifies us. Kolář and Pokorný mirror each other’s subjects until original and derivative blur, raising the question of whether a copy can be more authentic than its model. Kolář foresees the body’s mutilation by robotics; Pokorný sees it as a monstrous biomechanism. Both build an industrial hell of iron and concrete. Kolář’s robots enact pathological human behaviour, technology as blind, destructive automaton rather than truth. Pokorný builds golems from concrete, asphalt and silicon, deformed beings on the verge of collapse. Their works argue and echo one another, a dance macabre of monsters and androids. As Vyskočil wrote, art is the result of struggle, the artist fights directly for his being.
